1970 MG C GT

C GT
First Registered:
Registration No:
FLE 666J
Chassis No:
October 2018

The MGC was produced from 1967 to August 1969, and was intended as a replacement for the Austin Healey 3000. The first engine to be considered was a six-cylinder version of the BMC B-Series, but the production versions used a 7 main bearing development of the C-Series that was also to be used for the Austin 3 Litre saloon. In twin SU carburettor form the MGC the engine produced 145 bhp at 5250 rpm. The body shell needed considerable revision in the engine bay and the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15 inch wheels, a lower geared steering rack and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers. Like the MGB, it was available as a GT and Roadster. An overdrive gearbox or three-speed automatic gearbox were available as options. The car was capable of 120 mph and a 0–60 mph time of 10.0 seconds.

The MGC GT offered here is described by the vendor as a great car that drives very well, with excellent gear box and overdrive. The car benefitted from a body restoration in 2010 which included a new near side front wing, and has held up very well. This MGC also benefits from a Downton cylinder head and triple SU Carburettors which give superb performance and sounds great. We have driven this car and can confirm that the car looks great, sounds great and drives without fault. A new brake  servo has recently been fitted with the brakes also performing very well. The car has also recently been fitted with a Revotech fan replacing the previously fitted electric fan which is working well. The car sits on the correct steel wheels with new chrome trims. has the original leather bound steering wheel, original seat belts and the leather seats have a good patina. As this is a very late example that is believed to be a University Motors car, but this cannot be proven along with the 77,000 mile which is believed, but also not proven. With only 4 owners from new, this is a rare chance to own a good useable and rare classic that can be driven comfortably  in modern traffic.
