In Europe the basic R129 model was the 190 bhp 3.0 L inline 6 300SL with 12 valves. The 228 hp 3.0 L inline 6 with 24 valves is known as the 300SL 24v. But it was the 322 hp 500SL, with a 5.0 L V8 engine, which made the most headlines. The specification was high, with electric windows, mirrors, seats and roof. The R129 model was the first convertible/roadster to offer the automatic roll-bar deployment in event of rollover. The driver can also manually raise and lower the roll-bar should he choose to. This facilitates the clean look of R129 without compromising the occupant's safety.
This SL 320 has been owned by the vendor since 2005. It is in standard form and has not been altered. The car comes with a hardtop, and the soft top has had the window replaced by a specialist. A factory wind shield is fitted for when the top is down. It has had a part respray to cure stone chips, the documents to show this are in the file.
The history file includes all old MOTs, full service history, and the original owners manual. The car has good tyres with full tread all round, and was given a full service on 25/04/2019. It has been a much treasured motor car but recently little used. A gem to drive and a very tidy car in very good general condition.
