The Mercedes S Class W220 was introduced in July 1998. It was completely restyled, with a body that was slightly smaller and lighter than its predecessor. The new S-Class incorporated the new styling cues first introduced on the Mk I A-Class the year before, with a renewed focus on elegance and style in a more rounded shape compared to the preceding W140. Despite being smaller, the W220 S-Class offered more interior space than the W140. Production of the W220 S-Class totaled 485,000 units, slightly more than the production totals from the W140. The W220 was only produced as a Saloon.
In 2002 the W220 received an exterior refresh with updates to the front aspect, the grille was more upright, and the xenon-discharge headlamps were given a new transparent housing. The front bumper's lower air intakes were also restyled.
We are told that this very rare S55 AMG saloon comes with all the normal extras, including a rear fridge to keep whatever tipple you might like cool. This car comes with 11 stamps in the service book, it has had only 3 former owners, and is amazingly fast and very very comfortable. This represents very reasonable fast, luxurious motoring.
