The BMW E28 is the second generation of the BMW 5 Series, and was produced from 1981 to 1988. It replaced the E12 and was initially produced with petrol 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The E28 was the first 5 Series with the centre console angled towards the driver and the option of anti-lock brakes. In 1983, a diesel engine was available for the first time in a 5 Series. The E28 was replaced by the E34 in 1988.

This E28 528i was first purchased in December 1987 from BMW Park Lane, then on the original owner's death in 2002 it was passed to his son, and then purchased by the vendor in 2014 when the son emigrated to the Philippines. The original Bill of Sale is present showing 'extras' metallic paint, electric sliding roof, rear seat head restraints, green tinted glass, auto speed hold, front central armrests, M. Tech steering wheel, de-chrome, mats, alarm, and Pioneer/Autoflex aerial. The car comes with a fully documented service record (31 stamps in Service Handbook with accompanying invoices), all previous MOTs (28 in total from 1990 to date), and all old tax discs.

The car underwent considerable restoration in 2012 by a well known BMW specialist, with invoices to show over £11,000 worth of work. This included bodywork to repair any corrosion and respray as necessary, struts, fan, wishbones, track rods, various bushes, fuel tank, brakes and discs, wheels and tyres, steering, exhaust, muffler, wheel bearings, and door lock. Further work in recent years includes respraying the bonnet and wing mirrors, and a new windscreen. The Bodywork and Malachite Paint Work is described by the vendor as being in exceptional condition. The interior of the car is said to be in absolutely superb condition, with no signs of wear whatsoever, with new mats front and rear.

The car stands on the original standard metric 'bottle-top' style alloys, all five of which have been restored and fitted with five new Michelin TRX tyres. All new wheel bolts. The engine bay is very well presented, and was detailed by a specialist detailer in 2016, with new labels. Some mechanical work was undertaken during the 2012 restoration. More recently some minor work was carried out by a well respected BMW Specialist in 2017 with a new ignition lead set, distributor cap and rotor arm fitted. This car has covered only 1,500 miles since 2012.

The car comes with two sets of keys, owner's handbook, new Bentley's BMW 5 Series 1982 - 88 service manual (E28) and original BMW Park Lane umbrella.
