The Vanden Plas 1100/1300 was introduced in 1963, it was only available as a four door, and immediately proved a success, attracting drivers who were looking for a small but roomy luxurious saloon. The car, mechanically, was exactly the same as all the other 1100 models produced by BMC. Customers found the car a little underpowered, so in 1967 a 1275cc engine became available as an option, as did an automatic gearbox. The 1100 engine was dropped in 1968, but the by then Mk II 1300, with a more powerful twin-carburettor engine, was offered until 1974.
This is a 1972 Vanden Plas Princess Saloon with automatic 4 speed gearbox, showing 54,000 miles. It is an original car with everything complete, and the patina of age. With the current owner since January 2014, who has kept the car garaged and had some body work done, and professionally painted. The engine has been rebuild to facilitate unleaded fuel via single carburettor.
These cars were top of the AD016 range with Walnut Interior and Picnic Tables, a factory fitted heated rear window, heater and auto front seat belts, also a large Webasto style sunroof (no leaks). The Leather Seats are in Olive, complementing the body finish of Harvest Gold, a great vibrant colour of the period.
New tyres and battery, new sub-frame brackets and minor welding all done. The car is of course tax exempt and has a Vanden Plas Owner Club Heritage Certificate. It is believed to be the only 1972 licensed in 2018. This car is fun and always draws attention and comment at classic car shows, however garage space needed for another classic arrival.
