The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, sometimes called G-Wagen, is a four-wheel drive manufactured by Magna Steyr and sold by Mercedes-Benz. The G-wagen is characterised by its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. It uses three fully locking differentials, one of the few vehicles to have such a feature. Despite the introduction of an intended replacement, the unibody Mercedes-Benz GL-Class in 2006, the G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz in Daimler's history, with a span of 35 years. Only the Unimog surpasses it. The G-class was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran (at the time a significant Mercedes shareholder) to Mercedes and offered as a civilian version in 1979.
This very nice Mercedes G-Wagen 300GD M2 has been owned by 2 family members since new. It has been well maintained and has a good service history. Over the last 2 years a new clutch has been fitted, the radiator has been re-cored, the rear wheel arches have been replaced and sprayed, a new heater fan has been installed, and the passenger side electric motor and mechanism have been overhauled. The oil and oil filter have been renewed, and a new rocker cover gasket fitted.
The car drives well and you can change from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive whilst driving. The whole vehicle is in good condition inside and out, but there is a small tear in the corner of the driver’s seat. It comes with the original tool kit, car jack and workshop manual.
