The 1962 Jaguar MK II 3.8 manual overdrive offered here is being sold for restoration. The car was bought into the UK from South Africa when the owner returned to live back here four years ago, and all the paperwork for this is with the car. The UK registration and a Jaguar heritage certificate has been applied for. The Heritage certificate has arrived now and shows the car was UK built on 29th August 1960 as a 3.4 Manual and was shipped to South Africa in CKD form on 12th September 1960. All the South African paperwork shows the car as a 1962 3.8 Manual and it appears to have had only three owners. It may have taken to 1962 to build the car and then sell it. Cars assembled in South Africa when slow to sell would finally be built to the customer’s requirements and the paperwork suggests this was the case. The car does have the manual overdrive Moss box and a limited diff rear axle as a 3.8 specification. It also has the smooth black centre dash, pendant throttle pedal and pressed front wishbones as fitted to 1960 cars
The engine turns over with compression and has a good spark, and the vendor is hoping it will be running by the time of the auction (Engine now runs with direct fuel supply). Most of the floor and chassis are very good, the boot floor and wheel well are very good also, but the front near side cross member and crows foot are corroded. The car is fitted with the 4 speed moss overdrive gearbox and limited slip differential. The interior has been mostly stripped out but will all come with the car, along with a few boxes of spares which include, spare washer bottle, hub caps , wheel trims, and grille.
This is a full restoration project but is a very solid start for what will be a very desirable 3.8 MK II. Thie car is being offered for sale with no reserve.
