The VW Golf Cabriolet was sold from 1980 to 1993, and was built at Karmann. It had a reinforced body, transverse roll bar, and a high level of trim. The vinyl or cloth tops were heavily insulated and manually, or beginning in 1991, electrically, operated, with a heated glass rear window. The body of the Cabriolet did not change through the entire production run except for a larger fuel tank. In an attempt by Volkswagen to keep the car's styling current, all Cabriolets from 1988 on were fitted with a "Clipper" kit featuring smooth body-coloured bumpers, wheel-arch extensions, and side skirts.
This is a Golf Mk1 Karmann registered March 1993, which makes it one of the last ones produced. The car has had 3 owners from new, and the last owner had it for 17 years. It has been dry stored since 2007 covering just 100 miles in that time. The total mileage is just 78,115.
The vendor states that the car has never been painted or welded. The vendor has every MOT it’s ever had, and full service history, including original service, handbooks, pdi check sheet, original sales receipt and every invoice it’s ever had. The steering has been upgraded with Easy Steer adjustable electric power steering, which is discretely hidden behind the dashboard, and can be adjusted from extremely light or turned down completely to give the original feel of the car.
The car has just been fully recommissioned, which included 4 new tyres, a cam belt change, new clutch, rear exhaust box, carburettor rebuild, and a new starter motor. It was also fully serviced and MOTd. The car looks stunning, and it is as clean underneath as it is on top. The original BBS alloys have been restored and a new mohair electric hood fitted.
